Hornpipes Workshop with Chris Partington and Johnny Adams 3 November 2018

Our “Moving On” Workshop on Saturday 3 November on the topic of “Hornpipes” was an informative and enjoyable day. Expertly guided by master fiddlers Chris Partington and John Adams – the Sultans of English Hornpipe – we learnt about the origins of the Hornpipe as a tune and how the linked with hornpipe dances.

We went away having learnt a good few new hornpipes (new to us, that is, the tunes themselves dated back to the 18th Century), loads of music and reference material, all on a CD.

Ukelele workshop 2 April 2017
The introductory workshop on 2 April brought together several wannabe ukelele players who, under the guidance of Si Barnes, quickly found out just how easy a ukelele is to play.  The Ryburn Ukelele Band will meet regularly on the 1st Sunday of each month (from 7 May) 12.00 to 1.30 at 103 Oldham Road, Ripponden, HX6 4EB. New members are welcome to come along and join in!

Appalachian dulcimer workshop 4 June 2016
On Saturday June 4th Liz Conway and Pete Coe ran their one-day Appalachian dulcimer workshop. A whole range of abilities was represented, from ‘never touched one before’ to ‘expert’, and great progress was made. But above all the workshop was an opportunity to meet with like-minded people and benefit from Liz and Pete’s advice and encouragement.
