Barn Dance at Waring Green with caller Dave Ingledew and the Wakes Band
April 18 @ 8:00 pm - 11:00 pm
The Wakes Band is a brand-new English ceilidh band – young at heart but packing loads of musical experience.
Inspired by the Winster Wakes Week celebrations, the band’s sound encompasses English dance, music hall and jazz to create a uniquely foot-stomping sound, not dissimilar to a cross between Northwest Morris, a marching brass band, a fairground steam organ and Glen Miller!
The members are:
Keith Kendrick – anglo concertina, percussion;
Sylvia Needham – McCann duet concertina, banjo ukulele;
Nick Barber – melodeons, horn;
Oli Matthews – tenor and soprano saxophones, clarinet;
Jon Loomes and Fruzsina Rakoczy – piano;
John Barber – bass saxophone.
The Caller is Dave Ingledew who is a well-known and very experienced folk dance caller and musician. He played the melodeon in the Bursledon Village Band, and now leads the Mumpers Community Ceilidh Band and plays in the Revival Ceilidh Band, and calls with several bands including the Wakes Band.
