Barn Dance at Waring Green with caller Pauline Jones and The Alice Band
October 19 @ 8:00 pm - 11:00 pm
Pauline Jones is an experienced dancer (Longsword, Appalachian, Stepdance, Ceildh), and as a regular attendee and occasional caller at Ryburn Barn Dances, she uses her knowledge to give dancers a varied and interesting dance programme and a lively and enjoyable evening.
The Alice Band is Alice Jones on Keyboards and Clarinet, and Michael Beeke on English Border Bagpipes and Recorder. They play English and French tunes with aplomb and joie-de-vivre.
Alice Jones is a young superstar singer, multi-instrumentalist and dancer from Ripponden in West Yorkshire. Her background is deeply rooted in the English folk tradition and the music that she makes instantly reflects this strong influence. She was a member of the Herb Boys Ceilidh Band with Steve Harrison and Vic Gammon and subsequently The Black Box Band. She was also a member of the Gina Le Faux Trio and the High Society Dance Band.
Michael Beeke is one of Britain’s most innovative and original bagpipers, and a European dance music specialist. He is a member of the exciting trio Hérétique, and was a member of the John Dipper Band. He is an expert in early music studying in particular the development of bagpipe repertoire from the medieval period to its present day place in modern folk traditions and has worked with many performers across the folk and early music worlds.
