Spring Sing 2020
March 28 @ 12:00 pm - 10:30 pm
Calling all singers:
Lift your spirits with us at the R3S Spring Sing on Saturday 28 March at the Malthouse in Rishworth.
Chris Coe will be awarded the EFDSS GOLD BADGE on Friday 27 March when loads of singers who have known her over the years,and benefited from her teaching and encouragement, will be coming along to Ripponden for the award gathering. And to celebrate we’ve organised a Spring Sing on the following day, Saturday 28 March.
The Ryburn 3 Step Spring Sing is a day-long celebration of songs from the folk tradition or performed in a folk style. Starting at midday, there will be three 90 minute sessions throughout the afternoon, each with its own theme:
12 noon – 1.30 “Strike the Bell“;
2.00 – 3.30 “Lie of the land“;
4.00 – 5.30 “Murder and Mayhem“
The featured guests for the whole day and the evening concert are Vic Gammon and Will Duke, who are currently on tour together.
The Spring Sing sessions during the day will provide lots of opportunities for you to sing your favourite songs that fit (however tenuously) into the themes.
The last session will be followed by a Folk Club style session with the theme “More mayhem” from 7:30 to 10:30. There will be floor spots you and other singers to contribute, alternatively you can just join in the choruses or simply listen and enjoy.
The Malthouse is a fine old (Georgian) pub that serves good food and a range of wines, beers and spirits all day. The Spring Sing will take place in the upstairs function room so please let us know if you need assistance.
The location is in Rishworth (HX6 4QB) on the main A58 road from Ripponden to Junction 22 of the M62, next to Rishworth School. There is a large car park at the side and rear of the pub.
The nearest railway station is Sowerby Bridge and the 560 bus service takes you from Station Road in Sowerby Bridge to the pub at 11:32 (arriving at 11:42).
The last bus leaves the pub at 22:58 (arriving at Station Road at 23:10). We recommend you check with the West Yorkshire Metro timetable before making travel arrangements.
There is no Admission Charge for the Spring Sing and the evening concert, as this event is our way of publicly celebrating Chris Coe’s Gold Badge Award with Friends who have known Chris for so many years.
Attendees can make donations which will be passed to local good causes after our (minimal) expenses have been covered.
(Ryburn 3 Step is a not-profit-organisation that promotes traditional music, song and dance from its base in Ripponden.)
